Oppo Find X9 Ultra: the premium smartphone set to outpace rivals

Oppo has just unveiled its new premium smartphone: the Oppo Find X9 Ultra. With this handset, the Chinese brand intends to leave its rivals in the rear-view mirror.

At the end of 2025, Oppo impressed us greatly with the Oppo Find X9 Pro, a smartphone that had everything going for it and ranked among the best in its category. How can it improve on that? With the Oppo Find X9 Ultra, the Chinese manufacturer is aiming not only to win buyers over with an accomplished specification sheet, but also to deliver the best camera phone on the market.

Oppo Find X9 Ultra design and accessories

For its design, Oppo has chosen a unibody aluminium frame and a vegan leather back (a polite way of saying leather-effect plastic). Its appearance sets it apart from competing models through two clearly defined sections that call a camera to mind. The handset comes in black or orange, a shade that is evidently very fashionable at present. Along its edges is an extra button for taking photos, as on the iPhone and Honor Magic8 Pro. It carries IP68 and IP69 certification, making it resistant to water and dust. For those who want them, Oppo also sells a case with an additional battery, along with a 300 mm lens that attaches to the ring surrounding the camera module.

A technically cutting-edge smartphone

When it comes to specifications, the Oppo Find X9 Ultra offers the very best currently available. It features a large 6.8-inch OLED display with a 144 Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a 7050 mAh battery. That should translate into phenomenal battery life. It also supports 100 W fast charging and 50 W wireless charging. Put simply, the Oppo Find X9 Ultra is a beast.

Oppo Find X9 Ultra photography ambitions

However, photography is where this handset is especially keen to make an impact. Competition in the camera phone market is fierce, with formidable opponents including Honor, Samsung and Xiaomi. Oppo is banking on its partnership with Hasselblad to persuade buyers. The X9 Ultra has a module made up of a 200-megapixel wide-angle sensor, supported by an equally high-resolution 200-megapixel telephoto sensor (x3). Alongside this pair are an ultra-wide-angle camera and an additional telephoto sensor (x10), both offering 50 megapixels. The Find X9 Ultra makes exceptional promises regarding image processing, something we will naturally assess in our review.

Finally, it is worth noting that the handset runs Android 16 with the Color OS 16 interface. The latter brings several refinements, including minimal notifications and more sophisticated AI. There is currently no price or release date for the Oppo Find X9 Ultra.

Presse-citron's assessment

On paper, the Oppo Find X9 Ultra comes close to being the perfect phone, an impression strengthened by the outstanding quality of its predecessor, the Find X9 Pro. Oppo is clearly targeting the luxury smartphone segment, going up against the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Honor Magic8 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Ultra and iPhone 17 Pro. While each of these devices has photographic strengths, the X9 Ultra could leave the competition behind with its pair of 200-megapixel sensors. Its huge battery could further complete this promising picture. Naturally, a specification sheet is not everything, and our review will have to establish whether it lives up to these promises.
