GTA 6 is arriving soon. Here is everything you need to know about Rockstar’s game.

After years of waiting, GTA 6 is nearly here for our consoles. To say that anticipation is high would be an understatement. It could even be described as the cultural phenomenon of 2026, if not of the entire decade.

GTA 6 is a genuine behemoth: a future video-game landmark that will remain a talking point for years, just as GTA 5 did before it. This guide brings together the key information in five questions.

When is GTA 6 released?

GTA 6 is scheduled for release on 19 November 2026. Anyone who pre-orders it will be able to download it from 12 November. However, it cannot be launched then: players will need to wait until Rockstar opens its servers before they can play.

The 19 November date is now set in stone. This is worth stressing, as the game has been delayed several times. When Rockstar announced it in December 2023, the studio said it would arrive “during 2025”. That window was later moved to 26 May 2026, before being changed once more. This time, it is final: the game will indeed launch on 19 November.

Which platforms will GTA 6 be released on?

GTA 6 will be released for the two current console ranges: PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

Rockstar has passed over the older PS4 and Xbox One, for the obvious reason that they lack the necessary power. The Switch 2, which is less powerful than Sony and Microsoft’s home consoles, has also been left out. Could a release follow in the coming months?

What about PC? Rockstar has not provided any details so far. However, the publisher has sometimes made PC players wait a year after a console launch. A 2027 release can therefore reasonably be hoped for. This approach is not systematic, though: Red Dead Redemption (2010) had to wait for a re-release before reaching Steam… in 2024.

How much will GTA 6 cost?

GTA 6 will be sold in two editions. The listed prices are as follows:

Standard edition: 79.99 euros
Ultimate edition: 99.99 euros

The Ultimate edition includes a range of extras, including exclusive cars, weapons and clothing.

These prices are broadly in line with the AAA market. That is an important point, as many players feared an inflated price tag of more than 100 euros. In the end, Rockstar has been reasonable.

Will GTA 6 be sold in a physical edition?

The game is already available through online shops, PSN and the Xbox Store. It can also be purchased in a boxed edition from third-party retailers. There is a catch, however: these editions are simply digital versions presented as physical products. The box contains no Blu-ray disc, only a download code. It is a decision we regret.

The practice is plainly absurd. What is the point of selling an empty game box? It may appeal to collectors, certainly, but it undermines the physical market. It simply allows Rockstar to control sales and thereby wipe out the second-hand market: a code can only be used once and cannot be resold. Once again, players are worse off. They are not buying a game, but merely the right to play it. The distinction matters.

What is GTA 6’s story?

GTA 6 takes place in the fictional state of Leonida, a pastiche of Florida. Its main city is Vice City, a barely disguised version of Miami. The playground looks set to be vast, with other locations including Port Gellhorn, an abandoned seaside resort in the marshes - the fictional equivalent of Panama City in northern Florida - and Ambrosia, an industrial town in the middle of the state, inspired by the rural city of Clewiston because of its sugar-related industry. Nature will also play a major role, with the Keys, the islands south of the state, and the Everglades marshes, called Grassrivers here.

The game follows two characters, Jason and Lucia, a pair of robbers reminiscent of Bonnie and Clyde. Here is the official synopsis:

“Jason and Lucia have always known that life would not be kind to them. But when things go wrong, they discover the dark side of the sunniest region in America and find themselves at the heart of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the entire state of Leonida. More than ever, they will have to rely on one another if they hope to make it out alive.”

As in GTA 5, it is possible to imagine a system allowing players to switch freely between the two characters.

06/12 - GTA 6 already posts record figures

Just 24 hours after its first trailer was released, GTA 6 was already recording unprecedented figures. In under a day, the video amassed 90 million views on YouTube. By comparison, GTA 5’s trailer took 12 years to reach 100 million views.

It therefore broke the platform’s record for the most-watched non-music video in 24 hours, previously held by MrBeast with 46 million views, and ranked second across all categories behind a music video by Korean group BTS, which recorded 108 million views.

That total does not include views generated by other accounts: IGN had recorded 3 million views after 24 hours, while GameSpot had reached 15 million.

These staggering figures point towards a huge commercial success when the game launches, then planned for 2025.

06/12 - The first piece of bad news

There is bad news for PC players. According to information on Rockstar’s official website, GTA 6 will not be available on PC at launch.

The publisher states that the game’s 2025 release is planned for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. It is disappointing for some, but not especially surprising: the latest GTA games have also arrived on PC later.

Rockstar ultimately released its first trailer earlier than expected. An initial leak began circulating online the day before the official announcement. Rockstar was not about to let anyone steal the spotlight, so the trailer appeared on its official channel a few hours ahead of schedule. It includes everything that makes GTA so appealing.
