Bloctel will disappear on 11 August 2026

They will lose a highly useful tool known as Bloctel.

For millions of people in France, it is an everyday nuisance. Telemarketing calls can disrupt consumers’ peace several times a day, and they are often scams that must be avoided at all costs. To counter this threat, some people have turned to the government-backed solution by registering on Bloctel’s anti-cold-calling list.

According to droits-finances, 12 million people have joined the platform. It is far from completely effective, but it at least provides some protection. Unfortunately, the Bloctel list will stop operating on 11 August, for a logical reason. The service has informed users by email:

“Until now, and still at present, consumers wishing to object to telemarketing calls must register on the Bloctel list. From 11 August 2026, registration will no longer be necessary: without consent, telephone canvassing for commercial prospecting purposes will be prohibited. The Bloctel service will therefore become obsolete and will be withdrawn. Breaches of these rules may be reported through the SignalConso platform.”

It added: “The current framework remains in force until and including 10 August 2026. If you are registered with Bloctel, your registration will continue to apply until that date.”

Bloctel becomes obsolete under the new law

From that date, the law of 30 June 2025 will come into effect. It bans telemarketing calls regardless of the time, day or business sector involved. Only businesses with which you have signed a contract will still be entitled to contact you. Unfortunately, there is no indication that this new law will permanently eliminate this spam.

A highly effective app against unwanted calls

If the legislation proves ineffective against unwanted calls, we recently told you about the Saracroche app. Its approach is straightforward yet particularly effective: it blocks 16 million telephone numbers, including those with prefixes commonly associated with spam: 0162, 0163, 0270, 0271, 0377, 0378, 0424, 0425, 0568, 0569, 0948, 0949. It can also identify certain operators known for making these calls.

Saracroche’s transparent approach to spam calls

Its creator, Camille Bouvat, has been a developer for nearly 19 years and a freelancer for 14 years. Keen to be transparent, he has made the source code available on GitHub. Speaking to Framablog last year, he explained some of the reasons behind the project:

“Like everyone else, I receive unwanted calls in my personal life, and even more so as a self-employed person. So I started this project, and it was a challenge for me because I am a web developer rather than a mobile developer. I wanted to build something native using Swift and Swift UI, to create a lightweight, high-performance application.”
